Bluffton is located in close proximity to some of the best hospitals and healthcare facilities in the state including Beaufort Memorial Hospital, Hilton Head Island Hospital and Coastal Carolina Hospital to name a few. Bluffton is also home to offices affiliated with the region’s most recognized institutions such as St. Joseph’s/Candler and the Medical University of South Carolina. These healthcare facilities offer high-level medical care and specialize in a variety of health services ranging from pediatrics to oncology.

Coastal Carolina Hospital

Coastal Carolina Hospital is a 41-bed acute care hospital located at the intersection of Interstate 95 and Hwy. 278 in Hardeeville, S. C. The hospital has been serving the medical and health care needs of Jasper and Beaufort counties since November 2004. The hospital provides acute care services including intensive care, diagnostic imaging, laboratory services, surgical services, outpatient physical rehabilitation, hyperbarics and wound healing and 24-hour emergency treatment. Coastal Carolina Hospital is accredited by The Joint Commission, the nation’s largest hospital accreditation agency.

Hilton Head Hospital

Hilton Head Hospital was built in 1974 and opened its doors in 1975 as a private, nonprofit, 40-bed, accredited medical facility. In 1994, Hilton Head Hospital was sold and became a part of the Tenet Healthcare Corporation. Hilton Head Hospital, the hospital is currently certified for 93 acute care beds. The main campus is comprised of three connecting buildings – the LaMotte Building, the Main Hospital Building and the Medical Pavilion. The south campus houses the Outpatient Physical Rehabilitation Center. The Bluffton-Okatie Outpatient Center located at the intersection of Hwy. 170 and Hwy. 278 offers a primary care center, outpatient surgery, radiology, laboratory, physical therapy, occupational health services, diagnostic cardiology and physician offices.

Beaufort Memorial Hospital

Beaufort Memorial Hospital, opened in 1944, is licensed for 197 beds (169 acute, 14 rehab and 14 mental health). It is fully accredited by The Joint Commission and boast a quality medical staff of more than 150 board-certified or board-eligible physicians at our not-for-profit medical center in South Carolina. Beaufort Memorial is the largest hospital between Savannah, Ga., and Charleston, S.C. Situated on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, Beaufort Memorial is an acute care hospital and a regional referral center.

St. Joseph’s/Candler announced November 13 its plans to build a four-acre medical campus at the Buckwalter Commerce Park. The $22 million capital investment project is expected to create more than 60 jobs. this medical campus will consolidate its services that are currently spread throughout Beaufort County. Construction on the 40,000 square-foot medical campus is scheduled to begin in late 2019. St. Joseph’s/Candler currently has nearly ten facilities in Beaufort County which include a primary care practice, imaging center, wound care center and a hyperbaric center. This medical campus will consolidate its Beaufort County services and add several medical services including medical oncology, brachytherapy, GYN oncology, radiation oncology and an open MRI unit.

“This project is exactly the type of business the Town hoped to attract to the Buckwalter Commerce Park,” Mayor Lisa Sulka said. “The Town’s wish list for prospective businesses included being able to stimulate economic development, attract high-paying, knowledge-based jobs and be civically-active in our community. St. Joseph/Candler’s 40,000 square foot facility, in the heart of Bluffton’s Commerce Park, is a perfect fit for the Town’s vision.”
